10 Album Explainer Day 7: Josh Nelson "Lift"

I was never a camp kid and I didn't know any Jewish music outside of the tunes I grew up with in our '80s suburban Conservative synagogue. The flavor of Jewish music in my ear was strictly modal, neo-Chassidic, folk music. My first year of cantorial school added a lot of art music and chazzanut to the mix.

Then I heard "Lift," which included the first Jewish songs that I included on my daily iPod playlist. Rockin' electric guitars. High quality arrangements. Radio-ready mixing and mastering. It expanded what I understood Jewish music *could* be and pushed me further down the path towards In Pursuit.

For my money, I'll listen to "Positive Change" any day.
